Every Bit Counts: Supporting Local Biodiversity, One Bottle at a Time
At Vale 194 we know it’s often the simple things, a shared meal, a good walk, a bottle of wine, that make a stay memorable. That same mindset is behind our latest small step toward sustainability.
To mark World Environment Day, we’re proud to highlight a small initiative we introduced back in September 2024, in partnership with Direct Collect and the dedicated team at Biodiversity McLaren Vale.
A Small Act With Local Impact
We’ve installed blue bins right next to the regular rubbish and recycling bins, making it easy for guests to recycle their 10c refundable drink containers during their stay. It’s a small thing to do, but a small thing done by many can add up.
Here’s how it works:

“It’s a simple way to give back to the landscape you came to enjoy and it takes just a few seconds.”
We introduced this initiative last spring, and while it’s taken a little while to see results, we’re excited to share that as of the end of May 2025, we’ve raised just over $127 in donations. It’s a small total so far, but it’s a meaningful step in the right direction.
Why It Matters
Biodiversity McLaren Vale is tackling the weeds choking our local creeks and replacing them with native plants that actually belong here. Their work helps bring back natural pest controllers like birds and insects, improving conditions for nearby farms and vineyards.
This award-winning community project has been transforming the landscape since 2007, creating wildlife corridors, restoring habitat, and building healthier ecosystems across the region.
